In 2024, CDC paused PrEP coverage reporting for one year to update overall PrEP prescriptions using newly available data sources and to determine the best methodology for estimating PrEP need. However, CDC is unable to resume PrEP coverage reporting at this time due to a reduction in force affecting the Division of HIV Prevention (DHP). As part of this staffing reduction, the DHP branches responsible for producing HIV incidence and prevalence estimates and providing the statistical expertise needed to assess PrEP coverage were eliminated. Additionally, due to the reduction in force, data on estimated HIV incidence and prevalence and knowledge of status have not been updated through 2023. CDC is currently evaluating plans and capacity to resume this work.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, data for 2020 and 2021 may need to be interpreted with caution. Refer to technical notes for each indicator.
