Contaminants
The contaminant data comes from the ATSDR
iHazDat application and the
Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA)
Toxic Release
Inventory (TRI)
program.
Demographics
The demographic data comes from the
U.S. Census Bureau
.
Environmental Health WebMaps uses county level data from the 2000 Census
results.
Hazardous Waste Sites
The hazardous waste site data comes from the ATSDR
iHazDat application which houses a subset of HazDat. HazDat, the
Hazardous Substance Release/Health Effects Database, is the scientific and
administrative database developed to provide access to information on the
release of hazardous substances from Superfund sites or from emergency events
and on the effects of hazardous substances on the health of human populations.
Environmental Health WebMaps uses a subset of the iHazDat data that includes
active National Priority List sites and active ATSDR Petition sites.
The hazardous waste site data is updated monthly.
Mapping
The geographical mapping interface tools are provided by the ATSDR Geographic
Research, Analysis and Services Program (GRASP).
Programs
The program data comes from NCEH/ATSDR, NCEH/ATSDR funded, and other federal
and state agencies programs. Some of the programs featured in Environmental
Health WebMaps are the NCEH Lead Prevention program, Pediatric Environmental
Health Specialty Unit program, and State Health Departments.
Resources
The resource information comes from NCEH/ATSDR. Users will have access to
valuable resources including the ATSDR ToxFAQs™, Toxicological Profiles, and
Public Health Assessments.
Toxic Release Inventory (TRI)
The TRI
data is updated and maintained by the
EPA
. The EPA and state environmental agencies annually collect data from
industrial facilities where a release or transfer of certain toxic chemicals
has occurred.
